The New York Mess!
With The Dodgers finally seeing the light at the end of the McCourt tunnel and receiving some much needed Magic, are The Mets that far behind? Granted when you think of baseball you think of The Yankees and then you think of the Dodgers. Finally, baseball fans all over the world have a chance to see both teams be GREAT at the same time since the early 80′s. Dodgers have some work to do but when you spend 2 billion dollars you have to imagine playoffs in the very near future. They brought in Stan Kasten who was the architect behind the Braves of the 90′s and helped bring baseball back to DC. Then you have Magic Johnson who will be the goodwill ambassador to help bring back fans to the ballpark after McCourt’s scumbag security cuts gave the Dodgers the lowlight of that fan beating on site. Even Joe Torre, who is a Yankee God for the teams of the 90′s, couldn’t overshadow the mess Frank McCourt put that franchise in. They made the playoffs a couple of years and actually won a series for the first time since 1988 but soon came the McCourt divorce which led to payroll cuts and trades/free agent signings bringing back the likes of Juan Rivera and Juan Uribe. ZOINKS! Donnie Baseball is in the dugout, Matt Kemp is signed long term, Kershaw is a beast. And now is the time for The Dodgers to reclaim their title, The Yanks of the West and bring these two storied franchises back to the Fall Classic…
And Now…The Mets! or in most circles…THE MESS! I’m a diehard Yankee fan but I know the importance of The Mets being relevant in the Big Apple. I can’t really blame the fans, the front office, or even the AAAA team taking the field to open Citi Field next Thursday. All fingers are pointed at one person…Fred Wilpon! Known for many years as Fred Coupon for his lack of spending. Madoff scheme, Ponzi scheme. I’m not going to dig into all that because you know the story. If he wasn’t best friends with the Commish, he would have been forced out a long time ago and Mets fans would have a lineup worth paying Citi Field prices for. Shea Stadium was the biggest dump in baseball this side of Olympic Stadium so I give credit to Citi Field being built. The park, and IT IS a park, is gorgeous! Great place to watch baseball or whatever The Mess are calling it these days. Mets fans TEBOW all day and all night for a Wilpon-Less team and they shed a very slow tear down their cheeks when they see The Dodgers get back on the path to greatness like the cross town Yanks have been doing since the early 90′s. I will be the first one to tell you it wasn’t because of Steinbrenner. It was because of the Commissioner banning him from baseball and letting Gene Michael and Buck Showalter fix that franchise followed by the Great Joe Torre. When Big George came back, he still caused a lot of stress to all involved and signed some big huge steroid thugs to dumb contracts but he let the baseball minds do their thing for the mos part and The Yanks have been in the Playoffs every year since, minus 2008.
Quoth The Sizzle…Nevermore!
